My children need clothes and food so they can do their best at school.  If it weren't for The Salvation Army, I don't know what I would do.  I don't know what they would do.  Knowing The Salvation Army is here for us is an answer to my prayers." - Susana, a hardworking mother of two young children

Imagine what it must feel like to tuck your child into bed, knowing she is hungry.  Or be forced to choose between keeping the electricity on or paying for your prescriptions.  Too many of our neighbors face these difficult situations and impossible decisions every day.

Across Southern California, the demand for The Salvation Army's assistance remains high.  Our programs provide them with essential needs like:

  • Groceries, meals, or food vouchers for hungry families.
  • Shelter for our area's homeless men and women.
  • Clothing for adults and children who are in need.
  • Utility assistance for people in danger of having their service shut off.
  • And so much more...

In 2011 The Salvation Army worked 365 days a year to meet the needs of families and individuals throughout Southern California,

  • We served over 1.25 MILLION meals throughout Southern California.
  • Assisted over 167,000 people for the first-time with direct assistance.
  • Distributed over 73,000 Christmas toys to children in need.
  • Provided over 235,000 nights of lodging to the homeless.
  • And so much more...

Renewing your support for The Salvation Army today will help us meet the needs of families and individuals in 2012.  With your continued support we can keep providing life-changing programs that give hope and faith to anyone in your community who needs help right away. Donate now

An Unlikely Valentine Match

Though Valentin's Day is still a week away, the children of The Salvation Army Santa Barbara Corps After School Program are getting a jump on the rest of us when they visit Alzheimers patients at Heritage House located at 5200 Hollister Avenue in Santa Barbara on Thursday, February 9 at 4 p.m.. For one very special young person, the visit represents a bridge from one world to another. Zachary Webster is an eight-year-old boy with a form of autism known as Aspergers Syndrome. Communication is problematic for Zachary, but upon his first visit to Heritage House with The Salvation Armys After School Program, things changed. He developed a special bond with folks two and three generations beyond himself.

Red Kettle Season a Success

Iconic Red Kettles throughout the greater Los Angeles area brought in a record $2,272,420.00 a $99,762.00 increase over 2010, reports The Salvation Army Southern California Division, which spans as far north as San Luis Obispo and as far south as Orange County. Building on a 120-year tradition, the 2011 Red Kettle Campaign relied on tireless bell ringers - many of whom were previous or existing Salvation Army clients. Other critical components to the fundraiser's success included supportive corporate partners that lent storefront space, and an incredibly generous public that continued to support the important work of The Salvation Army, regardless of the status of their 401ks.

Hanin Spirit Foundation Gets in the Holiday Spirit

The Salvation Army accepted a $2,000 check from the Hanin Spirit Foundation's first annual Hansik Holiday Festival- an event featuring Korean cuisine and culture to help promote healthy Korean food and culture within the US. Proceeds from the events silent and live auction went toward The Salvation Army's Christmas social services to help less fortunate families during the holidays. "We are deeply grateful and appreciative to the Korean community for hosting this event and discovering how Koreans not only believe in sharing and giving amongst each other but are reaching out and sharing their food and culture to other communities in LA." said Joseph Callahan, from The Salvation Army Los Angeles Area Command.
