Released 30 September 2009
The Press Enterprise reports that what was once the 77-bed drug
rehabilitation center in San Bernardino, CA is undergoing construction to
become a new homeless shelter for as many as 100 women and children. The
new facility will have 23 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a kitchen, a day room,
library, and media center. It will allow The Salvation Army to help more
people in much more dignified surroundings, and will also provide overnight
space to as many as 35 people when temperatures drop. Thanks to a grant
from Target, the two-room library and media center will have television and ten
computers as well as education software for remedial teaching of math, reading,
and writing.
