| Salvation Army Responds To Earthquake In Indonesia |
The people of Indonesia suffered more trauma when a strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck the island of Java, flattening buildings in a densely populated area south of the city of Yogyakarta. Latest media reports indicate 2,800 people have been killed and thousands more injured. Exact numbers are not known as many are still presumed trapped under rubble.

| Alaska Salvation Army Announces Leadership Change |
Lt. Colonel Evelyn J. Hunter recently was appointed as the interim Divisional Commander for the Salvation Army Alaska Division. She will remain in Alaska through the end of June when Majors Douglas and Sheryl Tollerud assume responsibility for administrative oversight and spiritual leadership as Divisional Commander and Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries respectively. Lt. Colonel Hunter replaces Majors Robert & Mariam Rudd, who transferred to the Cascade Division, with headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

Canteens are serving hot meals to storm victims and first responders in Hattiesburg, MS and Mobile, AL. Additional canteens are staged in Baton Rouge, LA, and Mobile, AL to be deployed to affected areas along the Gulf Coast once emergency response authorities determine that it is safe to enter these areas.

While south Texas was spared the brunt of Hurricane Emily, northeastern Mexico felt her full fury. The eye came ashore in San Fernando, a small fishing community of about 10,000. The entire village made up of mostly low-income families has been without electricity and water since the hurricane made landfall.

As part of the official major incident response in London, teams were scrambled to three underground stations in London, helping the emergency services and victims of the explosions. Additional teams were deployed and on standby across London.
