Older Alaskans Program
The OAP provides services such as home-delivered and congregate meals, homemaker and transportation services for seniors and disabled adults. Last year the agency served over 1200 people. Our annual budget for the current fiscal year is approximately $1.5 million.
Ride Along and help deliver meals to homebound seniors served through our Meals on Wheels program. (Monday-Friday, daytime hours)
Advisory Council Members - The Council is composed of individuals from various backgrounds who volunteer to provide their advice and guidance to enhance program operations. Current Council member include individuals from private sector business, clients of OAP, individuals from other volunteer organizations.
The Council would benefit from many qualities, including but not limited to:
* Information technology knowledge
* Financial acumen
* Fundraising experience
* Human Resources experience
* Volunteer coordinator experience
* Ability to organize and follow through on projects
* Creative thinking
During the holiday season, volunteers are invited to help deliver meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Additional volunteers are needed to help deliver Christmas care packages to seniors.
Lead storytime or crafts for children while parents attend life skills classes in the evenings at this shelter for homeless families and single dads operated by The Salvation Army. Another fun volunteer opportunity for creative, compassionate groups is to plan McKinnell's monthly birthday party includuing theme, activities, decorations, cake and more. Family Emergency Services
Help sort, pack and distribute food for individuals or families who are in need. The Salvation Army's Family Emergency Services provides food, medicine and various types of assistence to people in an emergency situation. To volunteer with this program please fill out our volunteer application.
Serendipity Adult Day Services
The Salvation Army Serendipity Adult Living Skills Center in Anchorage provides a warm and welcoming therapeutic environment for adults in various stages of dementia or cognitive impairment.
* Beauticians needed 2-3 hours per month. Skilled in cutting and styling hair for frail adults. Fully equipped salon space provided.
* Gardener/Landscaper needed 2 hours per week. Enjoys working outdoors and assisting with maintenance of flower garden and lawn.
* Volunteer Art Instructor
* Volunteer Exercise Leader
* Special Friends!
* Special Interest Group Leaders
* Assist with field trips, craft projects and other activities.
* Music groups to perform
* Bus drivers
* Anyone who would like to develop a one on one relationship with a client!
We sell a large variety of items that need to be displayed as neatly as possible. So we need people to help display books glassware small appliances furniture clothing linens etc. Also we need people to greet the public and help them locate things in the store. Minimum one half hour commitment and a friendly smile and a willingness to help and learn. In Anchorage, contact our Adult Rehabilitation Program at 562-5408 for more information. The Soup Kitchen feeds around 30 each day. It operates Monday - Friday 12:30.Volunteers are needed Mon-Fri to help prepare lunch. Food donations are also needed.342 Stedman Street Ketchikan, AK 99901-6625
