General Statement:

Position Summary:
The Program Director will oversee the Baby Haven and the Christian Education programs at the corps, under the supervision of the Corps Officers.


  • High school diploma or GED ; B.A. in Christian Education/Social Work a plus
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Experience working in a Christian Education setting
  • Social work and/or case management experience
  • Comply with The Salvation Army doctrine
  • Pass a Salvation Army background check
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Pass Salvation Army driver’s written test
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Publisher)
  • Knowledge of common office equipment (telephone, copier, FAX, etc.)

Work Schedule:
Exempt, full-time, permanent; variable hours as required by program

With the corps officer’s approval, establish a standard workweek taking into consideration the essential duties of this position, the mission of the department, and of the Salvation Army. The work of exempt employee is not measured solely by hours worked. Employees in exempt positions are expected to work the hours necessary to complete assignments on a schedule that satisfies the requirements of the job. A full-time commitment typically requires a minimum of eighty hours per bi-weekly pay period.

General Duties:
  1. Organize, facilitate, and recruit volunteers/speakers for Baby Haven
  2. Recruit volunteers for the Christian Education program
  3. Coordinate childcare for Baby Haven and the corps
  4. Supervise employees and volunteers for both programs
  5. Coordinate training for teachers and child care providers
  6. Select and order Christian Education curriculum as needed
  7. Maintain baby boutique stocked with baby items
  8. Seek donations and or discounts for baby boutique in the community
  9. Be able to represent Baby Haven in the community (public speaking)
  10. Data input
  11. Maintain all material and supplies ready for each class
  12. Be able to maintain all client information, program information and necessary forms as required by funding agencies
  13. Complete and submit monthly reports as required
  14. Complete and submit monthly Gift in Kind reports
  15. Maintain strict confidentiality of all information involving clients’ status

Other Responsibilities
  • Assist with Outreach Ministries as needed
  • Assist with the Social Services as needed
  • During the Thanksgiving season, assist receiving clients and with the distribution of food
  • During the Christmas season, assist receiving clients and with the distribution of food, clothing and toys

Working conditions:

Must be congenial and be able to work with difficult individuals
Must be able to work under pressure, when phone calls and walk-ins may increase in number
Must be able to perform in a professional manner and under stressful circumstances
Must be punctual and dress presentable to the public
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, hand, or feel objects, tools, or controls; to talk or hear; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
  • Often required to bend, s quat, and lift thirty pounds at a time.
  • Works on multiple projects in an environment characterized by interruptions and noise from ringing telephones, printers, copiers, and walk-in traffic, multiple deadlines, and competing priorities. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds; Organizes projects, sets priorities, calculates, catalogues, inspects, analyzes, plans, comprehends, and cooperates with others, etc.
  • Works with minimal supervision and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence. May be required to make independent decisions that may involve unique or unusual situations and/or complex issues and dealing with demanding requests and/or timelines. This position has access to confidential and private information. It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed.
