New Household Bargins Available at Grand Opening of Hillsboro Salvation Army Family Store

Portland, OR (May 14, 2009): The Salvation Army is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of a new Family Store (Thrift Store) in Hillsboro, Ore. on Thursday, June 4, 2009.

As the population to the west of Portland has expanded, The Salvation Army has received many requests from its shoppers to establish a store in the Hillsboro area. We are pleased to be able to meet this need with a large 22,500sf facility, opening at 9:00AM on June 4, 2009 at 1440 SE 21st Avenue.

Due to the recent economic decline and the soaring unemployment rate, many retailers have seen a sharp decline in sales. Demand for second-hand products has, however, remained strong. The Salvation Army Family Store offers a full shopping experience, making quality, gently-used clothing and household items available at an affordable price. Though attractively-priced, the kind of merchandise one can buy at The Salvation Army is not limited to basic staples. All the designer labels from your favorite Mall Stores are represented and at a fraction of their original price, along with furniture, high-end kitchen, bath and household products. The store will also carry books, media, small appliances and electronics.

All proceeds from the sale of donated goods at the store will be used to support the social and humanitarian programs of The Salvation Army here in the Portland area, primarily drug and alcohol rehabilitation at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center on SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Since before "recycling" was a word, The Salvation Army has been reutilizing discarded and donated materials to help the afflicted get their lives back on track. This important work has been underway here in Portland since 1886. We wish to thank all of our shoppers and donors whose generous support has made this new store possible.

Please stop by and celebrate this GRAND OPENING with us! There will be balloons and refreshments and tons of bargains!

The store is located adjacent to the Sunset Esplanade Shopping Center at the corner of Tualatin Valley Highway and Cypress Avenue directly across from Target.
