$196,000 Raised to Support Children's Programs at The Salvation Army's All About Kids Annual Dinner!

(Portland, OR) - A fundraiser dinner at the Oregon Zoo turned into a wild night as the money kept pouring in at The Salvation Army’s All About Kids Annual Dinner! On the evening of October 22, 2009, 260 members of the Portland community came together for a cause: to simply keep the doors open for the children who need them. At the end of the night, $196,000 had been raised for our children with more pledges coming!
KGW’s Drew Carney joined The Salvation Army as the emcee for the All About Kids Annual Dinner. With the help of Major Barbara Sloan, Drew explained that the money received will go directly to helping run the programs that keep kids off the streets, act as mentors, and offer a safe, caring place to turn to when home is not an option.
To top off the night, Shawn Higley, a senior vice-president of Wells Fargo Advisors, and current Salvation Army Board member, was the guest speaker for the event and told his story of how The Salvation Army has intimately affected his life. Shawn, who was adopted as an infant, searched his whole life for clues of his birth mother. It was upon joining the Advisory Board and taking a tour of several Salvation Army facilities that he learned that his birthplace was at the White Shield Center, a Salvation Army program for pregnant and parenting teenage girls.
These stories were the catalyst that moved so many generous people in the audience to make this event such a huge success! The Salvation Army wants to thank their Board members and corporate sponsors of the event; without you, this would not have been possible!
If you would still like to donate to this cause, The Salvation Army is still taking donations. Please mail all donations to The Salvation Army, 8495 SE Monterey Avenue, Happy Valley, OR 97086-7844. |
