The Salvation Army to Temporarily Close Family Store in Salem, Social Services still Available
|(Portland, OR) - The Salvation Army will temporarily close the Family Store in Salem effective September 28th, 2012, with an undetermined re-open date. All revenue from the Family Store supports recovery services at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Portland. When revenue is down, the program that serves hundreds of individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addictions is heavily impacted, and therefore a tough decision must be made. It is important to understand that the temporary closure of this store will not affect any other services provided by The Salvation Army in Marion or Polk Counties and residents will still have access to Residential Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Services at the Portland facilities.|
“It is never an easy decision to close a retail store, even temporarily,” says Mr. Steven Cermak, Retail Manager for the Portland ARC. “Our hope is that this will ultimately lead to more people being served through our Adult Rehabilitation program as well as throughout the various social service locations in Marion and Polk Counties. We are confident that the relationship between The Salvation Army and the Salem community will remain strong as we continue to serve those in need at the KROC Center and at the Salem Family Resource Center.”
The closing of this location will affect seven employees, who will have the opportunity to apply for other positions in the Salem area and/or be assisted with finial salary and benefits. Store operating hours (M-Sat from 9am - 7pm) will remain the same throughout the closing process.
The Salvation Army will continue to accept gently used clothing, household items and furniture at its four manned donation sites located at:
162 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem
3740 Market NE, Salem
2855 Broadway St. NE, Salem
2500 Santiam Highway, Albany
The Salvation Army has a long tradition of operating successful Family Stores throughout the country. Each store is operated as part of The Salvation Army's renowned Adult Residential Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Program. The Rehabilitation program receives operating funds from the Family Stores. Last year alone more than 600 individuals participated in the program located in Portland culminating in more than 43,000 nights of shelter and rehabilitative services. They received physical, emotional, spiritual and professional rehabilitation at no cost to the participant, their families or the community.
