Over $275,000 Raised for Kids at The Salvation Army "All About Kids" Dinner
|
(Portland, OR) - Stories packed a punch at The Salvation Army’s 18th Annual All About Kids Dinner last Tuesday night, September 25th, 2012, where over $275,000 was raised for kids in need in the community. The dinner was held, once again, in the Oregon Zoo Cascade Crest Ballroom, and in just a few hours, over 340 guests were moved to generously give to continuing the stories of thousands of underprivileged youth in the Portland Metro community. This year’s theme, “My Story,” made for a wonderful, heart-felt evening of stories and testimonials of how The Salvation Army has positively impacted people from a very young age.
“We are truly humbled by the generosity that we continue to see from our supporters in the Portland Metro community, and we are so thankful to the men, women, and children who shared their story with us at the dinner last week,” says Major Don Gilger, Portland Metro Coordinator for The Salvation Army. “Their testimonies made the difference, allowing us to raise nearly $50,000 more than we did last year! Just think of the number of stories we can help write now!” |
As guests entered the Zoo, they were met with testimonies and pictures of lives changed, followed by the opportunity to find out more about the various Salvation Army programs across the Metro area. Dinner opened with a special performance by The Salvation Army Portland Metro Youth Brass Band. Afterward, the program moved smoothly as eight men, women, and children told their story of how The Salvation Army has impacted their lives.
Additionally, two very special awards were handed out that night. Longview Fibre received the “Community Partner Award” for their years of providing thousands of cardboard boxes used to distribute food to clients. Atiyeh Brothers received an award for their longtime service and support of The Salvation Army’s programs, especially at Christmastime.
The Salvation Army would like to thank all of its sponsors, especially Fred Meyer Stores and Hoffman Construction, and everyone who attended the Dinner for their support in helping The Salvation Army exceed its goal this year!
In the words of the late great Paul Harvey, “and now you know the rest of the story.” |
