Assisting local families affected by war
The Salvation Army has partnered with Bob Miller of KPAM radio to provide a financial assistance program for deployed military personnel and their families. The program is called Home Front War Relief. Each year around Christmas time the radio station conducts Operation Santa Claus, to raise money for the program. Home Front War Relief provides immediate financial assistance for urgent life sustaining needs for currently or recently Gulf Conflict-related deployed personnel and their families. These needs include mortgage, rent, utilities, car payments, day care, tuition and other needs. The eligibility criteria are listed below.
Local Salvation Army Corps in Oregon and southern Washington State can assist families with applications for Home Front War Relief.
"The Salvation Army is currently seeking local military families who need financial assistance with living expenses as a result of deployment. In this time of economic uncertainty military personnel and their families should not suffer because they choose to bravely serve our country," says Major Donald Hostetler, former Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army's Cascasde Division. "This program is to promptly assist military personnel with critcal housing and other expenses to support them and thank them for their service," adds the Divisional Commander.
In addition to providing financial assistance. The Home Front War Relief staff will also assist military families with referrals to counseling, and other supports and resources as needed.
