The Watsonville Corps has been serving the greater Pajaro Valley since 1891.

In the past year, The Watsonville Salvation Army served nearly 43,000 dinner and 16,000 breakfasts. It provided more than 29,000 nights of shelter and provided 80,000 pounds of food to 350 families... THANKS TO CONTINUED SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY!

Assistance (Family Services Department)

The Watsonville Salvation Army provides a variety of social service offerings to the greater Pajaro Valley. Some services are offered by appointment only. For more information or to make an appointment, please contact: (831) 724-0948.

Food Assistance: The Salvation Army offers daily meals (breakfast and dinner) to approximately 90 to 120 individuals each day.
Emergency Assistance: includes weekly food pantry, utility assistance and referrals. As support allows, The Family Services department will also provide homeless prevention services and bus passes.
Seasonal Assistance: Holiday meals, toys for kids at Christmastime, etc. -- offered when available.
Missing Persons Assistance: The Salvation Army provides special services to reunite families and loved ones. For more information, contact our office.
Disaster Services: This service assists both civilians and service provided during domestic emergencies and disaster such as fires, floods and earthquakes by providing food, water, and other necessities.

The Corner House Program

The Corner House Program is an assisted living facility for single mothers struggling to overcome drug and alcohol addiction. The facility helps the women learn to live on their own, stay away from drugs and alcohol and support their children. The mothers are offered parenting classes, relapse prevention services and assistance with financial planning. Ultimately, the goal is for each mother to become self-sufficient and financially independent.

Laura, who has been living at the Corner House for four months, said her life was ravaged by alcohol abuse, and took a turn for the worse when her two daughters were taken from her in January. That is when she said she began to turn her life around.

"I knew I had a substance abuse problem, but I never looked for help until my kids were taken away," she said.

Laura left her husband and moved to the Corner House. She has been sober for nine months. Her children were returned to her in early October. She will move into her own apartment in March.

"I wanted a place to be healthy and safe," she said.

The 18-bed facility at the Salvation Army is currently home to seven women and 11 children. Everyone at the facility must go through 12-step programs and attend group counseling sessions. Each of them also works with a Child Welfare Services case manager and takes parenting classes. The women are also required to work on earning their GED, take employment training courses or enroll in continuing education. To live at Corner House, women must have chronic addiction issues, but must have been clean for at least 90 days. Residents who can afford to do so pay 30 percent of their income for the program's housing and services to learn how to support themselves.
