Released 2 July 2007
The Salvation Army's Youth Service Centers on the Big Island of Hawai`i maintain after-school enrichment programs that help provide kids 5 to 18 years with positive, life-enriching activities. Each Center is a community-based outreach conducted during after-school hours, weekends and holidays, as well as during summer. The Center stresses positive alternative activities to help prevent alcohol, drug and tobacco use, as well as teen pregnancy.
Some of the youth activities include karate, gardening, archery, computer skills, Polynesian and hula dance classes, food preparation and other life building skills.
The main goal of the Center is to build character, raise self-esteem, strengthen leadership skills and help develop young people to become productive and contributing adults.
