SALVATION ARMY AWARDS OUTSTANDING PARTNER AND VOLUNTEERS FOR EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Salvation Army held its annual Partners in Community Service Awards banquet to honor outstanding individuals in recognition of their exceptional service. The awards banquet was held at the Ala Moana Hotel Hibiscus Ballroom on Friday, March 13.
David Arita, president of American Carpet One received the outstanding corporate partner award for his active involvement with The Salvation Army for almost two decades. "David has proven his dedication to the work of The Salvation Army by providing countless hours of service in various leadership roles in the Army's Advisory Board," says Edward Hill, divisional commander of The Salvation Army. His company has also generously supported many projects through many in-kind donations.
The other awardees were:
- The Women's Auxiliary of Honolulu - For more than 40 years, this group of professional women have dedicated themselves to support the mission of The Salvation Army by hosting numerous events and fundraisers. For the past 20 years, they have hosted the annual Celebrity Fashion Show which showcases the premium apparel sold at The Salvation Army thrift stores.
- Joe and Shirley Recca -- Using their gift of music and hula, Joe and Shirley Recca have been entertaining thousands of people at The Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Neal Blaisdell Center for 19 years. They share in the joy of giving back to the community by providing wonderful Hawaiian music and hula.
The keynote speaker was Don Horner, Chair, President and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank. Horner addressed the challenging economic times as a great opportunity to demonstrate selfless giving and increase philanthropic efforts to help those who are less fortunate.
