TRUCKLOADS OF TURKEYS
DELIVERED TO SALVATION ARMY
preparing dinner for 2,000 people at Golden Hall
Chef Joe Olmos ordered his 100 Thanksgiving turkeys in June so he could get the best price! It takes two 18-wheelers to deliver those 700 POUNDS of turkey to The Salvation Army Door of Hope Central Kitchen along with 13 cases of stuffing, 22 cases of green beans, 120 pounds of butter, 250 cases of pumpkin pie, 7 cases of whipped cream and everything else needed to serve Thanksgiving dinner to 2,000!
Chef Joe and his staff of four will start cooking soon to be ready for the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Golden Hall on Thanksgiving Day. Golden Hall's seating capacity is 1,800 and in these hard time the Army is planning to invite overflow guests to wait until someone leaves to be served dinner.
"We don't want to turn anyone away," says Divisional Commander Major Linda Markiewicz who will greet the guests as they are escorted to linen-draped table cloths to be served by 400 volunteers.
