Currently, veterans make up one-third of our nation's homeless population - a number expected to grow in the coming years as a younger generation of veterans returns from active combat zones. Because of their exposure to war and violence for extended periods of time, there are many hardships that these brave men and women must overcome before they can reintegrate into society.
The Salvation Army is committed to providing services for veterans, and primarily administers these services from the campus of the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration complex. However, our newest veterans program - the Liberty Program - is jointly housed in downtown Los Angeles and the City of Bell, for those who cannot conveniently travel to the west side for assistance. The Liberty Program was established with the help of a generous grant, and has enabled The Salvation Army to continue reaching out to veterans, including veterans of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars, and also to expand the scope of its services. Through the Liberty Program we are now able to supply veterans with individual and group psychotherapy, drug/alcohol recovery, mental health services, and employment preparation.

Utilizing IADIF funding, The Salvation Army Liberty Program in Los Angeles, helps veterans and their families by providing the following services:
