The Anaheim Red Shield Family Center has been in operation since February of 1996, and is the only facility of its kind available to the public in Anaheim. The primary focus at the Anaheim Red Shield is to provide children with access to recreational, educational and spiritual programs that encourage their creativity and connection to the community. The Center puts families at ease by providing a safe environment after-school for their children and by offering mentoring services that help to build character. Other services provided include arts and crafts and homework help, as well as summer residential day camps which give at-risk children outdoor and field trip experiences.
There are four program departments at this top of the line facility, each of which provides an essential service to the surrounding community.
- The Aquatics Program includes swimming lessons, a competitive swim team, family swim time and an adult swimming program. The adult program enables seniors to build their physical strength and relieve the pain of arthritis in the Anaheim Red Shield's high temperature swimming pool.
- The Red Shield's Christian Education Program provides traditional Sunday programming, after-school Christian Club for children, Vacation Bible School and many other activities for all ages.
- Education Programs include ‘Discovery Trek' for second and third graders who need help boosting their grade point average. Tutors are available to assist children by teaching learning skills and how to apply them to schoolwork. ‘Club Red' is an after-school homework area where first through sixth grade children can work in a quiet environment. The ‘Art Academy' offers various classes in performing arts, including: ballet, jazz, drama and voice.
- Youth Programs include sports, games in the gymnasium and weekly crafts. Children also have access to the media and computer rooms for study and personal growth.
